On Tuesday 16th January, Solid Harmony sang as part of a
massed choir backing the Legendary Hugh Masekela and the Jazz Jamaican All
Stars, in celebration of the Music Manifesto 'State of Play' event at the
Roundhouse. This was an important national landmark in Music education,
marking a commitment for further funding for singing in Education from the
government, as well as keeping the importance of music making high on the
political agenda.
The Choir's own band, Samuel Awotayo, Diân Gasper, Leon
Davis and Nathanael Watson, students from Newham Sixth Form College (NewVIc)
and Royal Docks Community School had the opportunity to pick up some tips
from the Jazz Jamaican All Stars, 'jamming' with Hugh Masekela himself before the rehearsal with the choir began.
For
some members, this was the second time they have performed with Hugh
and they felt that this was even better than the last time.
