
Solid Harmony is a young people's choir directed by
Jane Wheeler. It was set up in April 2002 and has gone from strength to strength. Based in Newham, East London, it has over 40 members aged 10 -25 from schools, colleges and universities across the borough, with a strong senior and alumni membership taking part in
NewVIc's Activ8 program. Solid Harmony has 3 choirs who rehearse on Tuesdays; an all comers and beginner group, an advanced group (auditioned) from 6 - 7.30pm and a show choir of young professionals that come together for special projects and events. The choir is renowned for singing a wide range of music, including Gospel, R n' B and Rock, to Folk, World music and Classical. They work with a wide range of vocal leaders, including
Paul Watson,
Randolph Mathews,
Geneta Crooke,
Eska Mtungwazi and
Jason Yarde, as well as their Musical Director,
Jane Wheeler. Solid Harmony encourages members to write and compose for the choir. It has it's own band, including alumni students
Diân Gasper (keys) and
Samuel Awotayo (drums). Solid Harmony was set up initially with Neighborhood Renewal Fund from
